House on Mango Street [ages 9-12]

Who lives next door? What lives down the street?

Have you ever wondered who lives next door or what lives down the street? Have you ever made up stories about people, animals, or places that you see in your community. Have you ever thought about what someone else’s life might be like?

In this workshop, we will explore the themes of community and belonging using Sandra Cisneros’ widely acclaimed book, The House on Mango Street, as a backdrop. Campers will explore the special kind of language experimentation found in the book, write their own fun vignettes, and look at their community with a new (maybe made up) lens.
