Writing Contemporary Fiction with Time Travel Twists [ages 12-15]
The thought of a time travel story (or movie) often creates visions of bizarre worlds, robots, or other elements of science fiction. While this can be true, there is also a place for time travel in contemporary narratives about love, heartbreak, loss, moving on, family, social justice, and more. This workshop will explore three major paradoxes used in time travel tales. We’ll discuss how time travel can serve a story as a tool instead of a gimmick, possible techniques and rules, and thoughts about why time travel as a topic fascinates people in the “real” world. Session one will focus primarily on topic discussion. Session two will allow time for idea generating, sharing, and workshopping through tricky non-linear timelines.
