The 27 Club (ages 15-18)

The 27 Club refers to the tragic coincidences in rock & roll history of the deaths of stars at age 27. The term gained notoriety after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, with rock fans connecting his age to that of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones and Jimi Hendrix. When Amy Winehouse died at age 27 in 2011, it attracted even more attention to the significance of the age. In this exploration, in addition to considering the circumstances of their deaths, we will listen to their music and write a poetic response: what would their next song be? What message would they want as their last?
