Don't Forget Me: Creative Nonfiction About Childhood [ages 15-18]
Materials needed: notebook and writing utensil
As you near the end of childhood, take a week and reflect! In this class, we will use creative nonfiction storytelling to explore parts of our childhood and memorialize them. Through short stories, we will practice the art of remembering and honoring the youngest parts of ourselves together.
Topics to Explore:
Day One: Writing about your first memory
Day Two: writing about the first time you felt loved
Day Three: writing about your favorite day in childhood
Day Four: writing about a time you were brave
Day Five: writing about a big adventure
Each class will be structured as follows: discussion of prompt, writing time, sharing (if you’d like to).
From Catherine: All students are coming from different backgrounds—others may be beginners who are curious to learn more! Because of this, PLEASE feel free to ask any questions! Although I am the teacher, I’m not the only one in the room with knowledge. Peer collaboration is so important, so don’t be afraid to ask a fellow student their opinion or seek suggestions from the room. We must be respectful of everyone’s personal experience! If you’d rather not share your story with the class, you do not have to. We are honoring ALL parts of our experience and have no expectations attached to the outcome of our work.
